I’m fairly new to advantage play with a relatively small bankroll. As a consequence, it is imperative that I Wong in and out as much as possible, which the casinos watch and don’t like.
This week, with the eclipse, I struck on a once in a lifetime way to Wong without drawing any suspicion. I was at the Tropicana and went to a $10 table near the entrance so I could see outside the front doors. I sat down and placed a pair of eclipse glasses on the table. The pit boss came over immediately, looks at the glasses, and asks what they are.
I said, ” Eclipse glasses! I’m only here for a little while, I want to play a few hands before the eclipse happens. The eclipse should sometime in the next half hour.” I started playing and counting and whenever the count would go negative I’d either jump up with the glasses, wave them and exclaim, “I got to check out the eclipse” or I’d stand up and scrutinize the door and mutter, “It’s getting darker” while I’d wait for the count to improve.
The pit boss boss and the dealer became so curious that he asked if he could borrow the glasses. At that very moment the true count had moved to a +7 and I said “sure.” He told another boss he was going to look at the eclipse and ran outside with my glasses. While he was outside I spread to maximum bets on two hands. By the time he came back in I had won 4 hands at my maximum bet and spread.
But it didn’t end there, I told him to give the dealers and other bosses a chance to look at the eclipse. They all took turns and were very thankful for the opportunity. It pleased them more than being tipped and I got some great penetration of top of everything. I guess I won’t get another chance to do this for another 30 years or so.
