Most of us have or will be at tables where information that is presented as fact is naive, making the informed nod and smile.
Early yesterday I was at a table where a young dealer made a couple of comments that made me smile and one where I had to refrain from trying to educate her. She was in the process of shuffling the 6D shoe and I was making small talk. She indicated that her mother, who had worked as a dealer, instructed her on how to shuffle to protect against Card Counting. (My ears perk up)
She didn’t go into detail on what she was doing would make a difference but felt that it was the shear randomness she was trying to insert (my guess). She also went on to inform me that Card Counting is illegal in certain states. Really?! I say. She goes on but then added “… or maybe it was bet capping”.
Clearly she knows her facts. Card Counting is legal and capping bets during play is cheating/illegal. However, thought it would be “entertaining” playing the table. I raised/lowered bet according to my betting strategy and was rewarded for the effort.
Ploppy at first base was all cheers for the man that sat down at third base as he “must know how to play correctly” because of the size of his bets. Had to laugh when third base is playing off from instinct more than following Basic Strategy. Third base predictably lost as did first base.
Third base was replaced and eventually presented with 4,4 vs 5; dealer who indicated that she likes to play Blackjack indicated double where as I suggested split per basic strategy. Dealer, gave out her logic and I indicated a split opens up the possibility of double downs when the dealer is showing a weak card; third base took my advice (BS) and was happily rewarded.
